The Current State Of Piano Jazz

By: Michael Russell

Article Word Count: 398

Though easily confused with a popular program specifically called piano jazz, this and was not the first use of these words altogether, and in fact; piano jazz has had more of an effect on music today than we even begin to realize and upon the whole society overall. Piano jazz is more than a particular musical genre that has been perceived as a separate category of jazz in general, as the piano is itself very much a versatile instrument, and the structure of it has been incorporated in multiple kinds of instruments. Then it is quite natural for certain peoples perceptions on what piano jazz means to them personally, and it is through these means that one can implement ideas relating through not just the concepts alone of jazz or the piano, but within the boundaries of combinations.

With music at the core, messages convey so much more impact through the manipulations of timings and rhythms that would certainly create the spontaneous effect of both dance and thoughts of a varying nature, but through these gyrating concepts jazz became more complex where other forms of music began simplifying. Piano is a vital instrument with a capability for allowing a composer to understand the intricacies of jazz music, and making arranging an inventive process for every musician to play around with, related to the pianos blurred lines between melody, harmony, and rhythm. Which very much contributes to its overall capabilities as a unique instrument standing alone, or incorporated into a whole musical ensemble, the piano is wide ranging.

Many artists have contributed their ideas and works along the way, creating a whole array of what piano jazz in its entirety, and moving people to feel a certain way in their particular environment at the time. Music is infinitely more varied than simple words can separate and dissect, it seems as though many musical artists try to fight with stylistic limitations by creating within that concept a niche that will allow the musician to compose and understand music, or at least the current idea of appealing to the particular categorization that defines a whole cluster of varying talents and technical abilities. However, all of it is jazz in all of its free form degrees of multitude, and many audiophiles are enamored with the total spectrum of artists that fill the range of pianists.
